Do you ever wonder if God actually wants to hear the voice of you as a woman? Or if He actually gave us a voice that is valued in His Kingdom or His Church? I have actually had women ask me this before and I saw a social media post yesterday that brought up all of my old burning feelings about this.
For many of those who have read 1 Corinthians 14: 34-35, you may be a bit confused as to whether you have a voice in God’s church or in the ministry of Christ? Before I answer this question, let’s take a look at this scripture.
“Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
If you read this verse on its own it sounds like women have no right to speak inside a church or within a ministry without a man present. In asking God about this, He has assured me that the enemy has used the context of this verse to tell lies to many of His precious daughters. This is why I am so glad that He led me to a Bible that explains many versus like this one.
In sitting down to read this verse this morning, I dove head on into understanding this verse better and I am so grateful that the translation made it so much easier to understand.
In the Corinthian culture, women were not allowed to confront men in public. Apparently some of the women who had become Christians thought that their Christian freedom gave them the right to question the men in public. This was causing division in the church.
The last thing God wants from any of us is division. Besides, he created both men and women and all he wants is to have a relationship with both of us. To give you proof that God loves giving women a voice and making them an important part of his ministry, remember stories like that of:
- Woman at the Well
- Mary – the mother of Jesus
- Elizabeth – mother of John
- Mary Magdalene, who was the first one to see and speak to Jesus following his rising again on the third day
- Abigail who helped her idiot husband realize that he was making a HUGE mistake when it comes to working with David
So, find your voice and use it to call out to The Father. He is always there listening.
That is a great message. Thank you on behalf of all the mighty women of God.
